Amboseli National Parc

Amboseli National Park, formerly Maasai Amboseli Game Reserve, founded in 1948, is in the Kajiado District, Rift Valley Province in Kenya. The park is 392 km2 in size. 140 km South of the capital city Nairobi, Amboseli National Park is a popular national park in Kenya and the visit can easily be done in a weekend.
The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet Maasai and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world, with snow on the top. The local people are mainly Maasai.
Elephants, buffaloes, lions, gazelles, cheetahs, wildebeest, hyena, jackals, warthogs, zebras, Masai giraffes and baboons are all present, but the last few black rhinos were moved to Tsavo West in 1995 after a sustained period of poaching.
There is a small airport, the Amboseli Airport (HKAM).
